October Theme Day: Lines

For today's theme, how about a little twist, yah?

Lines of scrimmage are the focus today, as technically, they are lines.

The first one's from last weekend's beatdown of O'Fallon High School, which for you local readers was also featured on CCIN. (I was in alot of the shots, by the way.)

And here's a special daily double, this one from the Alton game a few weeks back.

I love the almost rosy quality to the image, stemming from the early evening time of the shot and the blur of red fans in the background.

Well technically it's in Alton, a short drive from E'ville, but this piece is still worth posting.

Looks VERY fresh, can't have been on its sidewalk for very long.

rally for St. Jude

There really aren't many causes better than the one championed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

So far, Edwardsville High has raised over $50,000 in the past six months for Danny Thomas' legacy, which is quite impressive.

The rally against childhood cancer last Monday will hopefully raise another $50,000, if all goes well.

Bravo.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring a return to regular posting, if all goes well.

Saw these cans laying out a few days ago behind Kriege Hardware, near downtown.

The store throws back to the 50's, where everyone knew everyone and you could pop in for a second or end up chatting all day.

Oddly enough, there was no graffiti around the cans.'

Not sure what i'll hit up tomorrow, so check in to see.

influencing photographers: Ansel Adams

Well, I thought that today I would mix up the blog a bit, and introduce a new Sunday series on photographers that influenced the way I pick up a camera.

First off is probably the biggest influence, Mr. Ansel Adams.

*applause*

For as long as I can remember, there have been A.A. prints hanging throughout my house. They used to mesmerize me as a child, just the scale of grandness left me spellbound.

Here's to you, Ansel.

Nice action shot from last week's game (once again).

I love the expression on number 8's face as he prepares to block the visage-less number 40.

I should be at tonight's game at Collinsville, if nothing comes up, and I'll be snapping much of my busy weekend.

Tomorrow is the Forest Park Balloon Race, and also in Forest Park, an exhibit opened at the St. Louis Art Museum dedicated to Abstraction in American Photography. Should be insightful.

Pretty busy today, so I'll keep the post brief.

As promised: a picture of a trumpeter at last Friday's EHS vs. Alton football game.

Don't have a whole lot to say about this one, although it looks very nice in black and white.

Alligators (Crocodiles?)

A few weekends ago, I went with some buddies out to the St. Louis Zoo.

We had from a few shenanigans, (almost falling in the jaguar pit, getting spanked by random Japanese girls, etc.), it really was a good time.

I've always been a fan, but It's been quite a while since I've actually been there, so it was nice to poke around and take some pictures.

This is one of my favorites, not necessarily one of the best, but i like the sense of motion it captures. It's almost as if the alligators are rushing out of some cave hidden in the shadows, even if they were actually sitting still.

On the block for tomorrow are either some pictures of the EHS Marching Tigers from last week's epic game vs. Alton High, or some football pictures from the same game.

autumn in edwardsville

Well, the last remnants of summer are still lingering on, the beautiful weather today gave me the hankering for some fall.

I happened upon this leaf last October, and its isolated placement (nearly 50 feet away from the tree) and obviously its shape set up for an above average picture.

The leaf is an absolutely perfect representation of my love for those brisk autumn months.
